Class 1 - manual wheelchairs, i.e. self-propelled or attendant propelled, not electrically propelled.
Class 2 specification vehicles are limited to 4 mph and can only be driven on the footpath, except when crossing roads.
Class 3 specification vehicles have a top speed of 6/8 mph, and are designed with additional features including, light, indicators and a horn, so that they can be driven safely on the road. When driving a Class 3 vehicle on a footpath, speed has to be restricted to 4 mph. Scooters/powerchairs should not be used in bus lanes or cycle paths. For safety reasons Regent Mobility does not recommend use of equipment on dual carriageways. The BHTA has published a leaflet entitled "Highway Code For Electric Scooter and Wheelchair Users" which you may find useful.
